Experience

Food

  • On first day, ordered dinner from Japanese inspored Vegan restaurant Plant-A-Seed.
    • Volcano noodles: Handmade noodles in a spicy tofu based sauce with assorted vegetables. Went for level 4 spice.
    • Enoki mushroom tempura: Lightly battered and deep-fried enoki mushrooms served with a tangy dipping sauce.
  • Got a few malaysian snacks from 711 for breakfast on second day.
    • Milo Cereal Bar: A chocolate malt bar with crunchy cereal bits, similar to a Milo drink in solid form.
    • Pandan and chocolate layer cake: Soft sponge cake layered with pandan and chocolate flavours, a popular local treat. It was filled with coconut cream.
    • Pandan swiss roll: A light and fluffy swiss roll cake infused with fragrant pandan flavour, rolled with coconut cream filling.
  • Both cafes I short listed were closed on Wednesday.
    • Had cold brew at ‘Your Local Club’ cafe in Armenian street. It was decent, the vibes of the cafe were nice.
    • After lunch went to ‘Utoo Boho’ which is known to have the best espresso in Penang. The espresso was really good, strong and flavourful. Not too acidic and quite sweet.
    • Had peach earl grey tea at ‘Mimamya’ cafe. It was a alright, nothing special. The peach flavour was quite strong.
  • Had lunch at ‘Sardarji’, a Michelin bib restaurant. It just tasted like a random dhaba in India. The food was good but nothing special.
  • For dinner went to ‘Kommune’, a vegan restaurant with malaysian inspired dishes.
    • Inchi Kabin: Seasoned deep-fried mushrooms with a Worcestershire dip, vegan version of a Nyonya/Perankan dish.
    • Chilled Mee Rebus: Cold handmade scallion noodles in a sweet potato and tomato soup with mock meat and water spinach tempura.
    • Kefir soda: A no milk probiotic drink with a tangy and fizzy flavour, made with fermented water kefir grains.
